[Diaspora] Piracy in the Space Combat game

Exactly. And it can be toned down and still be plausible. Not every
ref would accept "huge ore carrier", and I'd be cautious about the
compels against the pirate's "massive overkill lasers" -- I'll bet
they wreck havoc on the heat track! (That would be an advantage of
torpedoes over beams, incidentally). But that's the idea exactly.

As I see it, the economics of piracy in Diaspora are such that a ship
needs to take a ship cleanly only once every six months or so. That
should be enough for a crew to live well. So that just means being
there, waiting, for the least-guarded-most-vulnerable attractive
target. It's a long term wait not looking like a pirate, and being
able to strike quickly when the opportunity arises. Then the ability
to slip away quickly.

Hope this helps.
