[Diaspora] Diaspora for less hard Sci-fi

So how does everyone think Diaspora would work for less hard sci-fi,
or even Space Opera? I know it is tuned for hard sci-fi, but it is
built from Spirit of the Century so there is that lineage there. It
may need tweaking and house ruling to be appropriate, but It might be
a better base to build from than Starblazer Adventures which
unfortunately is not overly impressing me in play (though I haven't
given up on it yet). I ask for two reasons: one, the current space
opera game I am running with Starblazer isn't wowing me like I wish it
would; and two, I have been working on and off on a Star Trek
conversion for Spirit of the Century and think that Diaspora might be
better suited and have a lot of the work done already. My Star Trek
conversion seems to be much simpler than a lot of the conversions on
the Fate mailing list if that helps answer the question any. Full
disclosure, I don't own Diaspora yet (newly married so my disposable
income is a little less plentiful than it used to be), but I am
really, really tempted, and need a little more research into it, hence
the question.
Thanks everyone!
