I think in the end that's between you and your players. I think I could sell
it -- I might want to posit a bottleneck region of space (like near the T2
region of the slipknot)  and some active component in the mines (essentially
little robot ships) but the phrase "minefield" will fire their imagination,
so re-purposing it is solid.
